Description

The area sampled is located in the south-east coast of Mallorca Island (Mediterranean Sea). The water conditions are those corresponding to oligotrophic areas (low nutrients and low phytoplankton biomass), which is accentuated further during the summer time. The low density of population around the site, the lack of industrial activity and river runoff, result in pristine coastal waters.
